OMAN POST COMMEMORATES 75th ANNIVERSARY OF THE UNITED NATIONS

Muscat, 25 October 2020–Oman Post, an Asyad Group member company, and in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, released a commemorative stamp to celebrate the 75thanniversary of the United Nations (UN). The stamp features Oman’s flag colors, the international organization’s 75thanniversary emblem, and the slogan ‘Shaping our future together’.

 

To mark this symbolic date, the UN has launched the ‘UN75’ initiative, which aims to promote deep reflection on international cooperation and the role the UN will play in the future. In this context, Oman is contributing to a huge global conversation that aims to involve people from all around the world to listen to their hopes and fears, and to learn from their experiences, in order to construct a global vision for 2045, the year that will mark the centenary of the United Nations.

The new stamp was prepared in cooperation with the United Nations Postal Administration, which began issuing stamps in 1951 and marked the 10thanniversary of the U.N. on stamps. Photographs of the renovated UN headquarters in New York City are pictured on stamps issued in 2015 for the 70thanniversary, while countries from around the world are issuing commemorative stamps to celebrate this global milestone, 75thanniversary of the UN.

OMAN POST LAUNCHES NEW STAMP CELEBRATING  FORTY YEARS OF FRIENDSHIP WITH CHINA

Muscat, 20 October 2020 –In recognition of the Sultanate’s special relationship with China, Oman Post, in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has launched a new stamp. The launch ceremony was conducted with participation of His Excellency Mohammed bin Nasser al Wahaibi, Undersecretary for Administration and Financial Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; His Excellency Ali bin Khalfan Al-Jabri, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Information for Information; Her Excellency Li Lingbing, Ambassador of the Peoples Republic of China to Oman; and Abdulmalik Al Balushi, CEO of Oman Post of Oman Post.

 

Commemorating 40 years of official diplomatic relations between the two countries, the unique stamp depicts one of China’s most famous historical landmarks, the Great Wall of China, as well as an Omani fort and the historical Sindbad voyage from Sohar to Guangzhou. Culture and history buffs can purchase the special issue, which also includes 500 First Day Covers and 3,000 Souvenir Sheets.

Reaffirming its cultural ties, in 1980 a replica of a ninth-century Arab dhow named ‘The Sohar’, was sailed from Oman to China, tracing the journey that was said to have been undertaken by the legendary Omani voyager, Sindbad. In 2018 the two countries signed a ‘Belt and Road’ cooperation document, which has established a new platform for economic cooperation between the two countries in various fields.

Ahmed Alamri, Express Mail Service Manager at Oman Post said, “Our express services witnessed a considerable shift reaching an average of on-time delivery of 91%in 2019, equivalent to 63% increase compared to 2018.  We have also maintained an average of 96% on-time delivery even in 2020 to date. In light of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Oman Post is taking proactive steps to address a number of concerns. After careful monitoring of the increasingly evolving circumstances, starting Thursday April 2st 2020, Oman Post is implementing stricter processes and procedures that limits customer walk-ins to all branches to appointments only until further notice. This step has been taken to eliminate customer interactions and support social/physical distancing. We realize the important role of postal services and will continue to be operational with only essential staff remaining on-site, while all other staff will work from home.

  1. P.O. Box Services: Mailbox contents and parcels can be delivered to customers’ physical addressees through the newly-launched door-to-door service, “Asyad Express”, by calling the dedicated customer service line on 24506999 to schedule delivery. This service is optional, and charges apply.

 

  1. Matjar Service: Online shopping delivery from the USA remain operational via www.matjar.om.
