The collection and study of stamps, known as philately, is a pastime enjoyed by people of all ages from around the world. Even in the modern day of digital communication and franking, philately remains popular.

Stamps are an insight into cultures and events; they commemorate history in a unique way as well as celebrate personalities and achievements. Although the images are small, they are often works of art in themselves and attract the eye of even the most casual observer. Although stamps serve a purpose as a form of currency, they are also an ode to a country’s art, science, music and technology.

A celebrated philatelist, American President Franklin D. Roosevelt, once argued that philately is the best way to rid ones self of dullness and boredom and the most effective means of enriching knowledge.

“The most interesting thing about a postage stamp is the persistence with which it sticks to its job.”

- Napoleon Hill
